Taking over the role of CEO for a high-profile government agency would undoubtedly come with certain pressures, but for one of our clients these pressures were compounded by this role's position in the media spotlight. Despite coming to the role with some media experience, our client called in Solid Ink to help prepare the new CEO to effectively handle any media enquiry.
The one-day training session conducted by Solid Ink covered strategies to handle sticky questions from journalists regarding a range of issues. We also helped the Acting CEO learn how to prepare for interviews with different media types, including radio, television and print media.
At the conclusion of each practice interview, Solid Ink provided the client with clear and constructive feedback on their performance, tips for improvement and a handy checklist to use when preparing for any interview. They were very grateful for Solid Ink’s insight; feeling more prepared than ever for any external enquires coming their way.

As PR consultant to Film Victoria, Solid Ink has the opportunity to work very closely with the Melbourne Film Office (MFO). MFO provides a range of film commission services to productions interested in filming in Victoria. As you can imagine, many journalists are keen to talk to the staff at MFO, and when the new General Manager took on her role Solid Ink was there to get her ready for the media.
Like many people coming into an executive role, our client's main challenge was having little experience with journalists. With a vast array of issues and topics cropping up on a day-to-day basis, this person needed to be prepared from the get-go to handle ongoing media enquires. As an executive for a government agency, she also needed to be honest and transparent in her communication.
Media training can make all the difference to an interview or media appearance and greatly increases the strength of your messages. In this case, training involved a one-on-one session to talk through interview dos and don’ts, to practice communicating the right messages and responding to specific issues, and to run through practice interview scenarios.
By the end of one training session, our client felt well-prepared for any media enquiry, confident in their role as a spokesperson, and armed with the right skills to meet the challenges of being a new General Manager.
